Preparing for Your New Puppy Part 1

Part 1 - A place to Call his Own

The arrival of your new puppy is an exciting time for everyone in the family. Before the new member of your family arrives home there is much to do. Up until now your pup was care for instinctively by its mother, she nourished it, ket it clean and warm, but soon this will become your job. Now is the time to plan ahead and purchase the things you will need to look after your new pet.

Its best to give your young dog a place of his or her own, you may want to consider purchasing a crate but remember that your pup will not always be the same size so make sure you buy one that will accommodate a full grown dog. A crate is also useful in quickly house breaking your puppy. Don't feel about about putting your puppy in crate, dogs are den dwellers and feel safe and secure in crate. A crate is also useful when you are unable to be with him and watching him all the time. He can get up to much less mischief when in his/her crate.

We recommend you get some nice soft carpet for the bottom of the crate so that he will feel warm and comfortable. By purchasing your crate before the puppy arrives you can introduce him to his new home as soon as it arrives. He will soon recognise it as his 'place and enjoy the security of his crate. This will be his home even as he grows bigger and older, make it a warm and cosy for him.

In part 2 of preparing for your New Puppy we will discuss your new puppies food and water requirements
